This group photo, including every alum who attended the 50th reunion, taken on the plaza outside the Dicke Transportation Center at Carillon Historical Park on Saturday, 17 September 2011. This was the capstone event of a memorable weekend whcih was the 50th anniversary reunion of the of the Fairview High School class of 1961. Aren't we a handsome bunch of classmates? Fifty years -- Yikes! indeed.

1. Photos and Words to Remind Us of How it Was in 1961

In researching information for the pages of Remember When? it's clear that much of what we remember as the Sixties occurred after we graduated from high school. Some of our fondest memories even originated in the late 1950s when we were underclassmen. Here are some starters for remembering those years. The underlined headings are links to documents and web sites. Then, scroll down to see the various photo albums, enjoy the pictures,  and feel free to submit some of your own.

Dinner at Miami Valley Golf Club after the Last Walkthrough

After that last walkthrough of the FHS building in September 2010, many of us and spouses along with friends from other classes gathered at the Miami Valley Golf Club for dinner.  This "mini reunion" energized several of our classmates to begin planning our 50th reunion in earnest.

Crashing the 50th Reunion of FHS '60

In October 2010 the FHS Class of 1960 held their 50th reunion weekend.  Their main event was a gala dinner at the Dayton Art Institue.  Several of our classmates have spouses in the Class of '60 and invited a few of us to join them for the social hour prior to dinner.  We had a great time reconnecting with old friends who shared our times at FHS.

Cruising to Canada

Thanks to Mike Abbott's leadership, 26 classmates along with 16 spouses enjoyed an "ocean-going" mini-reunion on June 5-9, 2011. We sailed from New York City to St. John, New Brunswick, and back.  We relaxed; spent many hours catching up, reminiscing, sharing stories, laughing, celebrating our longevity; and ate too much. It made us all eager for the September reunion in Dayton and we agreed that we need to get together as often as we can in the future.

Remembering Dayton today and yesterday

Black and white photos were taken mostly in the late 1950s and compiled at a Dayton history web site. Color photos were taken in 2010 by John and Claire Wolfe to document Dayton's historical sites as they look today.

For the Love of Theater

Theatrical productions were a big part of high school for many Bulldogs in the Class of 1961. Besides the school plays and Follies, some of us took the senior class trip to Broadway where we saw some remarkable shows. Have a look.
